Acenda launches app to support recovery and health tracking

Acenda, a member of Nippon Life Group, has launched a new digital tool, Vivo Companion, aimed at assisting Australians through recovery following illness or injury.

Developed in collaboration with digital health firm dacadoo, the app marks dacadoo’s first implementation focused specifically on rehabilitation journeys.

Acenda’s chief claims and transformation officer, Andrew Beevors, said the initiative seeks to integrate health support with a policyholder’s recovery process.

“Active participation in recovery has been shown to support faster, more complete recoveries and a smoother return to everyday life and work,” he said.

Health score and coaching support integrated into platform

The platform uses a dynamic health score to give users real-time insights into their well-being. This score is generated from data including exercise routines, nutrition habits, and sleep quality.

The app is compatible with devices such as Garmin and Fitbit, enabling users to synchronise activity data.

It also provides access to a digital health coach, offering behavioural prompts and recommendations tailored to the user's recovery progress.

In addition, the app allows users to access Acenda’s Vivo Virtual Care Services and includes features such as competitions and prize draws to promote engagement.

“We understand that every recovery journey is different, and we aim to support customers every step of the way in their recovery and return to good health,” Beevors said.

dacadoo CEO Peter Ohnemus said personalised digital health tools are becoming increasingly central to care models.

“The future in digital health is all about hyper-personalisation. Acenda is a clear leader in this space, utilising dacadoo to accelerate and tailor customer recovery by using dacadoo’s Digital Health Engagement Platform,” he said.

Shift in public health behaviour underscores platform relevance

The product rollout coincides with changing attitudes towards wellness in Australia.

The 2025 Bupa Pulse Check, conducted by Quantum Market Research, reported that 30% of respondents experienced improvements in quality of life over the past year. Respondents cited mental health, fitness, financial well-being, and improved work-life balance as contributing factors.

Despite the gains, concerns around chronic conditions persist. Seventy-one percent of those surveyed expressed worry about developing illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, or stroke.

There has also been a rise in self-care activities, including healthier diets, physical exercise, and mental health practices like meditation.

The findings showed that Tasmania had the highest proportion of residents reporting better quality of life, followed by the ACT and Queensland.
