Youi has announced the appointment of Andy Cornish to its board of directors, effective July 2025.
Cornish brings more than 40 years of experience in the insurance sector, having held leadership roles at Insurance Australia Group (IAG), Zurich Insurance, and RBS Group’s NIG Insurance and Direct Line Insurance. He has also served as chair and president of the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA).
Peter Widdows, chair of Youi, said the appointment comes at a pivotal time for the company and the broader industry.
“Australia’s general insurance industry is at an inflection point as external challenges including changing weather patterns, technology advances, and challenging macroeconomic conditions intersect with customers’ needs for tailored products and better service standards,” he said.
He noted that Cornish’s background in the insurance sector positions him to add value to the board as the company pursues further expansion in the Australian market.
“Andy has been helping insurance companies here in Australia and overseas respond to industry challenges for over 40 years, and his experience will be invaluable to a challenger brand like Youi as we seek to differentiate our products and services for customers who are looking for an alternative to the big insurers,” Widdows said.
In addition to his new role at Youi, Cornish holds governance positions at several organisations.
He is chair of ANCAP Pty Ltd and the Western Sydney Wanderers Foundation Committee, a non-executive director at Avant Group Pty Ltd, and co-founder of Larapinta Connect Pty Ltd. He is also a member of the EXL APAC Advisory Council.
Cornish’s appointment coincides with a period of recognition for Youi in the Australian insurance market.
This year, Youi received seven awards at the Canstar Customer Satisfaction Awards, including national and state-level honours for home and car insurance, as well as roadside assistance.
These awards were based on extensive consumer surveys conducted by Canstar, which assessed satisfaction levels with insurance providers across Australia.

Youi said the Canstar awards reflect customer sentiment and satisfaction with the company’s products and service delivery.
According to Canstar’s published methodology, thousands of consumers were surveyed to determine the winners in each category.
