WTW has confirmed the death of Greg Vlahos, who served as chief financial officer for Asia-Pacific.

Vlahos, who joined WTW nearly 17 years ago, held several senior finance leadership roles and was active in the insurance sector in Australia.

James Baum, WTW’s head of Pacific, issued a statement regarding Vlahos’s death.

“Greg was a well-respected leader whose impact was felt not only within WTW but across the broader industry. He was a trusted advisor and friend to many, a remarkable individual whose contributions shaped not only our organisation but the insurance and risk community in Australia. His passing will be deeply felt by many across the industry,” Baum said.

WTW has expressed condolences to Vlahos’s family and stated that support will be provided to his loved ones and colleagues during this time.

“Greg was a valued member of the WTW family for nearly 17 years. He was not only an exceptional finance leader and colleague, but also someone who inspired those around him with his integrity, dedication, and warmth,” it said in a media statement.

Greg Vlahos’s career and industry contributions

Vlahos’s tenure at WTW began in 2008, and he advanced through several finance roles, including CFO for Australasia before taking on the Asia-Pacific CFO position in 2023. His responsibilities included oversight of financial operations and strategy for the region.

Beyond his work at WTW, Vlahos was involved with the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) as a non-executive director since 2018.

He previously held senior roles at CA Technologies as vice president of accounting for Asia-Pacific, at Unisys as Asia-Pacific internal audit manager, and at KPMG as senior manager.

Colleagues and industry peers have noted Vlahos’s long-standing commitment to the insurance sector, particularly in areas of risk management, governance, and financial stewardship.

Industry outlook and next steps

WTW has not yet announced a successor for the Asia-Pacific CFO position. The company has stated its intention to continue supporting Vlahos’s family and its staff.

“At this time, our thoughts are with Greg’s family and loved ones. WTW is committed to supporting them, as well as our colleagues, during this difficult period. On behalf of the management and all employees at WTW, we extend our heartfelt condolences,” the company said.
