The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) has announced the recipients of its 2025 state Broker of the Year and Young Broker of the Year awards, recognising both established and emerging professionals across several states.

The awards were presented at a series of gala lunches, which brought together hundreds of insurance professionals in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.

Queensland brokers awarded for professional achievement

At the Queensland Gala Lunch in Brisbane on July 23, Kate Greaves (pictured centre) of Goldsworthy General Insurance Services was named the 2025 Queensland Broker of the Year.

The award, sponsored by CGU, is presented to senior brokers who demonstrate high standards of professionalism and contribute to the advancement of broking practice.

NIBA CEO Richard Klipin acknowledged Greaves and the other finalists, highlighting the association’s appreciation for their dedication to the profession.

“I wish Kate all the best for the upcoming national awards in October and would like to congratulate all the finalists for their commitment and dedication towards the profession,” he said.

NIBA president Nick Cook said the awards program plays a key role in recognising talent within the broking community.

“The award is an integral part of recognising and celebrating the standout talent present in the broking profession,” he said.

CGU executive manager, major event claims, Ben Szczerbinski, said the award aims to recognise brokers who have made a positive impact on clients and communities.

“On behalf of CGU, I congratulate Kate, the winner of this yearʼs Qld Broker of the Year award. This award recognises those who have made a significant impact on people, businesses, and communities. Weʼre pleased to acknowledge Kate's efforts in going above and beyond for her clients,” he said.

In the Young Broker category, Emily Radmall of Your Insurance Broker received the 2025 Queensland Young Broker of the Year award, supported by Vero.

This award is given to brokers under 35 who demonstrate professionalism and commitment to the industry.

Vero’s state distribution manager for Queensland, Peter Roberts, noted Radmall’s focus on client advocacy and ongoing professional development.

“Emily has proven to be an outstanding advocate for her clients. Her dedication to ongoing professional development and her ability to inspire those around her reflect the qualities of a true leader. We are truly proud to provide ongoing support to exceptional brokers like her,” he said.

Both Greaves and Radmall will advance to the national awards, where state winners from across Australia will compete for the national titles at the NIBA Convention in October.

State winners from Victoria, Tasmania, and Western Australia

In Victoria and Tasmania, Aon’s Debbie Spandonis was named the 2025 Broker of the Year at the Melbourne Gala Lunch on July 18.

Spandonis was selected from a field that included Alina Lucaciu of Whitbread Insurance Brokers and Ashley Johnson of Arcuri & Associates.

Western Australia’s top broker for 2025 is Charles Elders of Avoca Insurance & Risk, who received the award at the Perth Gala Lunch.

In the Young Broker category, Tom Wheeler of Lockton was recognised for his commitment to clients and the profession.

NSW/ACT winners and national award pathway

In New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, Caleb Richards of Gallagher was named the 2025 Broker of the Year at the Sydney Gala Lunch on July 9.

Derek Turner of Aon was awarded the 2025 NSW/ACT Young Broker of the Year.

All state winners will move forward to the national awards, with the final announcement to be made at the NIBA Convention in October.

Industry recognition and community engagement

This year, NIBA has introduced partnerships with local charities in each host city, integrating community involvement with industry recognition.

Klipin said the initiative is intended to extend the values of the broking profession beyond the workplace and support local communities.

“This is a unique opportunity to give back to the communities that support us. Aligning the NIBA Gala Lunches with a local charity extends broking values of care and service to the broader community,” he said.
