The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) has issued a statement condemning the shooting at Bondi Beach yesterday and extending condolences to those affected. On behalf of its board, NIBA said it “extends its deepest sympathies to the victims of the tragic shooting incident." The association said its “hearts go out to everyone impacted, including the friends, families and communities who are now dealing with unimaginable grief and trauma in the aftermath of this horrific incident.”
NIBA said the “unspeakable tragedy” has had a profound effect on its own community and expressed support for the Australian Jewish community, “who the authorities confirmed were targeted in this incident, at a time when they had come together to celebrate an otherwise joyous occasion.” The broker body also recognised those who responded at the scene, stating that it “acknowledges the actions of the police, emergency services workers, paramedics, first responders and civilians,” and that “their bravery and courage in the face of this adversity was instrumental in preventing further loss of life.”
NIBA said it “unequivocally condemns this and all other acts of violence and hatred that makes Australians feel less safe and encourages the entire community to come together, support and take care of one another during this challenging time.”
The association also highlighted the impact of such events on mental health and urged those struggling to seek help. It “acknowledges this is difficult news for everyone to process and encourages anyone who is experiencing distress or knows anyone experiencing distress to seek out support.”
NIBA listed support services to help people struggling with the tragedy:
Lifeline (24/7) crisis support: 13 11 14
Beyond Blue (24/7) for mental health advice and support: 1300 22 4636
Mental Health Line (24/7) for advice and connection to specialist mental health services: 1800 011 511

NIBA also reminded members of the insurance community that they can contact their broker networks’ Employee Assistance Program (EAP), where available.
