Motorsport Australia’s insurance broker partner, MGA Insurance Group, has broadened its commitment to grassroots motorsport by becoming a supporting partner of the governing body’s premier development programs, Motorsport Australia announced Thursday.

The expanded partnership sees MGA recognised with development initiatives, including FIA Girls on Track, First Gear, and Women’s Introduction to Motorsport.

MGA Insurance Group, which represents the local customer-facing arm of Motorsport Australia, has delivered claims services for the organisation since becoming its local service provider in 2025, according to a news release.

“These programs play a vital role in shaping the future of the sport,” MGA group marketing manager Dan Porter said. “Our expanded partnership reflects MGA’s commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and long-term development across Australian motorsport.”

Opening doors for new participants

Porter emphasised the importance of creating pathways for new participants. “We’re proud to support initiatives that open doors for young people and women to explore the many pathways motorsport offers,” he said. “By investing in these programs, we’re helping ensure the sport continues to grow.”

The FIA Girls on Track initiative targets young women aged 8-22, providing free events to help participants understand opportunities in motorsport, whether as drivers, engineers, mechanics, or in other industry roles.

First Gear offers children aged 12-17 an accessible entry point to motorsport, pairing participants with race driver instructors and providing vehicles for the day. The program serves as the first step towards obtaining a full Motorsport Australia licence for circuit racing, rally, or off-road racing.

The Women’s Introduction to Motorsport program caters to women seeking to enter the sport for the first time, allowing participants to use their own road cars. The program includes hands-on experience in vehicle preparation, track exercises focusing on car control and skills development, and guidance on next steps for beginning participation in motorsport.

Motorsport Australia partnerships manager Loren Di Pietro welcomed the expanded backing. “MGA Insurance Group’s expanded support is a strong endorsement of Motorsport Australia’s development pathway programs,” Di Pietro said. “Programs like FIA Girls on Track, First Gear, Women’s Introduction to Motorsport, and more are critical to growing participation nationwide.”

Motorsport Australia development manager Charlie Barlow highlighted the long-term value of the partnership. “These initiatives are essential in creating easier and more readily available entry points for participants eager to start their motorsport journey,” Barlow said. “With MGA’s backing, we can continue to grow and evolve programs that welcome new audiences into the sport and foster further growth in the space.”

Broader trend among insurers

The partnership follows a broader trend of insurance providers supporting sporting development programs in Australia.

  • In March 2025, Allianz and the International Olympic Committee extended their Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partnership through 2032, supporting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
  • Suncorp has maintained a long-standing commitment to grassroots sports through its partnership with Netball Australia, supporting all levels from the junior Net Set Go program through to Suncorp Super Netball and the Australian Diamonds.
  • IAG’s NRMA Insurance brand has invested in cricket development through its partnership with Cricket Australia, offering community club grants and supporting temporary floodlighting for regional clubs.
