Residents in flood-hit areas of North Queensland will have another chance to speak directly with their insurers later this month, as the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) and several insurance providers return to the region for a new round of in-person consultations.

The visits come nearly six months after heavy rainfall and flooding caused widespread damage across parts of the region. Insurers will be available in Cardwell, Ingham and Townsville from July 29-31, offering one-on-one sessions for policyholders seeking updates on their claims or advice on next steps in the recovery process.

Liam Walter, ICA director of mitigation and extreme weather response, said this marks the third round of community consultations since the disaster.

"The floods of February were widespread and several of these communities will be in recovery mode for some time yet. These consultations will be our third round since the event. Being on the ground again shows our ongoing commitment to face-to-face collaboration with everyone involved to resolve any remaining issues,” Walter said.

In addition to discussing individual claims, the sessions will also cover general information on the claims process, dispute resolution, and support available for ongoing recovery.

Consultation sessions will be held at the following locations:

  • Cardwell – Tuesday, July 29 at Cardwell Community Hall, from 10:00am to 4:00pm
  • Ingham – Wednesday, July 30 at Hinchinbrook Shire Hall, from 9:00am to 5:00pm
  • Townsville – Thursday, July 31 at Townsville Stadium, from 9:00am to 5:00pm

Residents must register in advance through the ICA website.
