Aon’s Debbie Spandonis has emerged as Victoria and Tasmania’s top insurance broker for 2025, earning her a spot in the running for NIBA’s national Broker of the Year title.

The recognition was revealed during a packed NIBA Vic Gala Lunch at Melbourne’s Sofitel on July 18, where over 520 professionals gathered to celebrate regional excellence in insurance broking. Spandonis stood out among finalists Alina Lucaciu of Whitbread Insurance Brokers and Ashley Johnson of Arcuri & Associates.

Sponsored by CGU, the award honours a senior broker who exemplifies professional standards and strong client advocacy. With this win, Spandonis is set to compete at the national level during the NIBA Convention on the Gold Coast in October.

“I congratulate Debbie and would like to acknowledge all the finalists who have demonstrated a strong commitment to professionalism and ongoing improvement,” NIBA CEO Richard Klipin said.

“The award process continues to unearth the great talent from within the broking industry and shine a light on their achievements,” NIBA president Nick Cook said.

With over two decades at Aon, Debbie Spandonis has held several leadership roles, most notably as branch manager in Hobart and, since 2021, as regional manager for Tasmania overseeing both the Hobart and Launceston offices. Her responsibilities include shaping risk-management strategies and driving local team performance. On LinkedIn, she also cites her involvement as a people leader and director with the Aon Charitable Foundation.

Damien Gallagher, CGU executive general manager for customer experience and growth, noted Spandonis’s high standard of work: “On behalf of the CGU team, Iʼd like to congratulate Debbie on winning this yearʼs Vic/Tas Broker of the Year award. With her dedication to client advocacy, Debbie has set a very high standard, and we commend her for her broking achievements.”

The national winner will be named at the 2025 NIBA Convention in October.
