As digital scams grow more complex and costly, Coalition has raised its standard cyber crime coverage for Australian policyholders to $500,000.

The higher limit, now included at 25% of the total policy value for eligible occupations, is automatically applied to all new Coalition cyber insurance quotes in Australia. Organisations seeking even greater protection can apply for limits of up to $1 million, subject to underwriting approval.

Trent Nihill, Coalition Australia’s head of underwriting, said the move addresses a growing mismatch between average losses and existing coverage levels.

“Our recent Claims Report showed that the average FTF loss is now over $250,000, which shows there was a clear gap in the market. We are focused on improving cyber resilience for all Australian organisations. By doubling our standard cyber crime limit to up to $500,000, we can design a policy that meets the needs of our policyholders,” Nihill said.

The increase in cover is one of the key updates following the release of Coalition’s 2025 Cyber Claims Report, which compiles data from the previous year to assess how threats are evolving. According to the report, BEC and FTF together made up 60% of global claims, with nearly a third of BEC incidents leading to FTF. The average FTF loss globally reached $290,000.

In Australia, those same attack types remain the most frequently reported.

Although the report recorded a 7% year-on-year drop in claims frequency overall, the severity of incidents remained largely unchanged. BEC claim severity rose by 23%, indicating that when these breaches do occur, they’re becoming more financially damaging.

The report also noted that Coalition policyholders experienced 73% fewer claims than the industry average, based on U.S. data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
