Budget Direct has formalised a new partnership with Melbourne Storm, becoming the NRL club’s inaugural Platinum Partner and Official Insurance Partner.
Under the arrangement, Budget Direct’s branding will appear on team apparel, training equipment, and stadium signage.
The partnership also includes support for community initiatives and additional sponsorship activities that have not yet been disclosed.
Jonathan Kerr, chief growth officer at Budget Direct, said the partnership represents a strategic opportunity to engage with the Victorian rugby league community.
“We are incredibly excited to partner with Melbourne Storm in this first and only Platinum Partnership with the club. To us, this represents an opportunity to support the growth of rugby league in Victoria with one of the most dominant teams in the modern NRL era,” he said.
As part of the agreement, Budget Direct will collaborate with Melbourne Storm to deliver community programs aimed at increasing participation in rugby league throughout Victoria.
The insurer will contribute to the club’s outreach efforts in schools and local clubs, with the goal of strengthening grassroots engagement and supporting the sport’s development outside traditional strongholds.
Melbourne Storm CEO Justin Rodski (pictured left) said the partnership aligns with the club’s objectives for long-term growth and innovation.
“We are delighted to welcome Budget Direct on board as Melbourne Storm’s first Platinum Partner. As a trusted Australian insurance provider, Budget Direct’s commitment to innovation and continued growth aligns perfectly with our club’s vision for sustained success in the years ahead,” he said.
Budget Direct has received multiple industry awards in 2025, including recognition from Canstar, Money Magazine, and WeMoney as Australian Insurer of the Year.
The insurer’s approach to product design, pricing, and customer service has contributed to its profile in the market.
The partnership is expected to introduce new initiatives for fans and the broader community, with further details to be announced during the season.
Budget Direct has also emerged as one of the leading advertisers in Australia’s insurance sector, reflecting a broader trend of increased advertising expenditure across the industry.
According to data from Nielsen Ad Intel, Australian insurers collectively spent $463.7 million on advertising between September 2024 and August 2025, marking a 4.7% increase from the previous year.
Youi led the sector in total advertising spend, with Budget Direct, Allianz Australia Insurance, AAMI Insurance, and HCF Australia rounding out the top five.
