The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has opened its 2026 membership renewal and recruitment period, inviting insurance and finance professionals in Australia and New Zealand to renew their membership or join the organisation.
Founded in 1884, ANZIIF operates as a membership and professional development body for the insurance and finance sector in the Asia-Pacific region. The institute reports a network of over 17,000 professionals and focuses on education, industry standards, and professional recognition.
Commenting on the membership renewal campaign, Katrina Shanks, CEO of ANZIIF, said: “Membership is more than recognition – it’s belonging to a trusted community that supports your growth, learning, and confidence to navigate change.”
In response to recent developments in the sector, ANZIIF has expanded its educational programs. In 2025, the institute introduced courses addressing recommendations from the government’s flooding inquiry, covering topics such as customer vulnerability, empathetic claims management, and the use of expert input. For 2026, ANZIIF plans to add further courses focused on code revisions and regulatory changes.
Members are recognised as Certified Insurance Professionals (CIP) and receive a digital badge. Membership also includes access to webinars, industry news, and a digital library with more than 1,000 articles and professional development materials. Members may also receive reduced rates for certain events and industry awards and have opportunities to network with professionals in Australia, New Zealand, and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
ANZIIF has announced plans to introduce a Member Advantage partnership in 2026, which will include discounts, lifestyle offers, and wellbeing-related benefits. The institute also intends to launch a loyalty program that will provide additional incentives for member engagement.
ANZIIF also continues to organise events for the insurance sector. The 2025 Australian Insurance Industry Awards gala reached capacity, leading to the release of additional tickets. Preparations are ongoing for the 13th New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards, scheduled for late November in Auckland. Award categories include insurtech, broking, and underwriting.
While ANZIIF is a leading membership body in the region, insurance professionals in Australia and New Zealand have access to several other associations and professional networks, each offering unique benefits:
National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA): In Australia, NIBA represents insurance brokers and offers the Qualified Practising Insurance Broker (QPIB) designation, professional development, advocacy, and networking events.
Australian and New Zealand Institute of Loss Adjusters (ANZILA): ANZILA provides membership and accreditation for loss adjusters, including education, technical resources, and industry standards.
Chartered Insurance Institute (CII): Based in the UK but with international reach, CII offers globally recognised qualifications and membership for insurance and financial services professionals, including Australian practitioners seeking international credentials.
Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA): FINSIA serves the broader financial services sector, including insurance, with a focus on professional development, networking, and industry standards.
Australian Risk Management Institute (RMIA): RMIA is relevant for insurance professionals specialising in risk management, offering certification, events, and a professional community.
Society of Claims Professionals (SCP): An arm of the CII, SCP provides resources and recognition for claims professionals in insurance.
Membership in these organisations can offer insurance professionals access to additional resources, specialist training, industry advocacy, and opportunities for career advancement. Many professionals choose to belong to more than one association to broaden their networks and credentials.
Professional association membership is increasingly important in the insurance sector, where ongoing regulatory change, technological innovation, and evolving customer expectations demand continuous learning and professional development. Membership in bodies like ANZIIF, NIBA, or CII can provide access to education and industry updates and also signal a commitment to high standards and ethical conduct. Participation in awards, events, and networking opportunities further enhances career prospects and fosters a sense of community within the industry.
