Allianz Australia has signed a four-year sponsorship agreement with the West Coast Eagles, extending its involvement in Australian football and community initiatives. The partnership will see Allianz support the club’s AFL, AFLW, and Wheelchair football teams through to 2029, with a focus on both sporting and social impact.

Insurer expands presence in Australian football

As part of the deal, Allianz Australia’s branding will be displayed on the neckline of the West Coast Eagles’ AFL match guernseys, as well as on training apparel, media backdrops, and signage at Optus Stadium and other venues. Starting in 2026, Allianz will also become the official shorts partner for the Eagles’ AFLW team and a major partner of the club’s Wheelchair football program.

This move reflects a broader trend among insurers in Australia to deepen their engagement with major sporting codes. For example, AAMI, a subsidiary of Suncorp, has maintained a long-standing partnership with the AFL, including naming rights to AAMI Park in Melbourne and sponsorship of the AAMI Community Series, which supports grassroots football. Similarly, NRMA Insurance, part of the Insurance Australia Group (IAG), has been a principal partner of the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL for over two decades, with prominent branding on team jerseys and community outreach programs. These partnerships demonstrate the insurance sector’s commitment to leveraging sport as a platform for brand visibility and community impact.

Partnership reflects shared values

West Coast Eagles CEO Don Pyke said the partnership reflects shared values between the organisations. “Allianz Australia’s support will enhance our AFL, AFLW, and Wheelchair football programs as they pursue excellence on and off the field, while also contributing to our club’s broader community initiatives. We look forward to an exciting future together with Allianz Australia and to the added value and experiences this partnership will deliver for our members,” Pyke said.

Community focus includes Foodbank WA support

A significant aspect of the partnership is its emphasis on community engagement. Allianz Australia and the West Coast Eagles will jointly support Foodbank WA’s Give a Feed appeal, which provides Christmas food hampers to families in need across Western Australia.

Allianz will sponsor 1,000 hampers, representing a third of the 3,000-hamper target. Each hamper contains enough ingredients for a festive meal for a family of four. In addition, West Coast Eagles players and staff will volunteer their time to help distribute the hampers in the lead-up to Christmas.

Community-driven sponsorships are increasingly common among insurers. For instance, QBE Insurance’s partnership with Sydney Swans in the AFL includes the QBE Foundation, which supports youth and community initiatives, while Zurich’s sponsorship of the Melbourne Football Club has seen the insurer back mental health and wellbeing programs for players and fans alike.

Digital initiatives target football fans

The new sponsorship comes as Allianz Australia expands its digital engagement with football supporters. In April 2025, the insurer launched the Allianz Fan Hub, an online platform offering exclusive content, competitions, and updates for fans. The launch coincided with the release of a Pre-Match Warm Up Top featuring a QR code within the Allianz logo, connecting fans directly to the Fan Hub.

The Fan Hub serves as an entry point for promotions, including draws for tickets to CommBank Matildas or Subway Socceroos home matches, a $1,000 travel allowance, and signed jerseys. The integration of digital access with physical merchandise is designed to enhance engagement with the football community.

Other insurers have also embraced digital innovation in their sponsorships. AAMI’s “AAMI Lucky Club” provides exclusive offers and experiences for fans, while NRMA Insurance’s digital activations with the Brisbane Broncos include interactive content and fan competitions.

Insurers and sports sponsorships

The Allianz-West Coast Eagles partnership is part of a growing pattern of insurer involvement in Australian sport, where companies seek to align their brands with the values of teamwork, resilience, and community. These agreements not only boost brand exposure but also enable insurers to contribute to social causes and foster deeper connections with customers and communities.
