Prudential Financial, Inc. has announced the appointment of Brad Hearn as president and chief executive officer of Prudential Holdings of Japan (PHJ), effective Oct. 10.

Hamada will remain with the company as an advisor until the end of the year to support the transition.

Leadership transition in Japan insurance operations

Andy Sullivan, CEO of Prudential Financial, commented on the leadership change.

“Brad brings more than 30 years of strategic operations leadership experience in the financial services industry. I’m confident in Brad’s leadership and his ability to drive growth across our Japan operations,” he said.

Before relocating to Tokyo, Hearn led Prudential Advisors, the company’s US retail and advice division, overseeing nearly 3,000 financial advisors. His earlier experience includes executive roles at LPL Financial, where he worked in business consulting for independent advisor services.

Reflecting on his new role, Hearn said: “I’m truly honoured to step into this role and grateful for the trust Andy and the leadership team have placed in me. I’m excited to build on the legacy of Prudential in Japan and work alongside our talented team to help drive our strategy forward for our customers and communities.”

Community engagement through sports in Hong Kong

In Hong Kong, Prudential plc hosted the NextGen Aces event on Oct. 15, coinciding with the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open.

The event brought together tennis legend Andre Agassi and current Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka for an exclusive on-court session and panel discussions.

The initiative was designed to draw connections between the discipline and resilience required in professional sports and the qualities needed for long-term financial planning.

The program included an exhibition match featuring Sabalenka and Anna Kalinskaya, as well as a demonstration by Agassi.

Angel Ng, Prudential regional CEO for Greater China, said: “We are honoured to once again be the title sponsor of the ‘Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2025.’ Having partnered with and protected our customers for almost 180 years, we remain committed to creating value for all our stakeholders.”

She added that the NextGen Aces event is designed to enhance the tournament by connecting with the community and younger audiences through top-level tennis and insightful discussions with leading athletes.

“Rooted in our commitment to holistic growth, this initiative brings together icons from different generations to showcase world-class talent, inspire everyone to embrace fitness, and serve as an inspiration for up-and-coming talents in Hong Kong,” Ng said.

Focus on leadership and talent development

Prior to the exhibition match, a panel discussion was held featuring Sabalenka, Olympic gold medallist Vivian Kong, and Prudential’s Angel Ng.

The conversation centred on leadership, mentorship, and strategies for developing emerging talent in both sports and business.

The event also included a discussion between Agassi and Prudential CEO Anil Wadhwani, focusing on leadership principles and building a lasting legacy.

The NextGen Aces event served as a lead-up to the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2025, which aims to promote tennis and youth development in the region.
