Matthias succeeds Dirk De Nil, who is retiring after a 35-year career in the insurance sector, including 17 years at Zurich. De Nil led the business through a period of growth and transformaiton, helping to establish Zurich Resilience Solutions as a strategic pillar of the company's global operations.
Zurich Resilience Solutions provides corporate clients with risk advisory and mitigation services designed to anticipate and manage both conventional and emerging threats. Its services cover risk assessment, resilience planning, loss prevention and crisis management, among others.
The business has grown in response to increasing demand from companies seeking more proactive approaches to risk management amid evolving threats, such as cyber incidents, climate-related hazards, supply chain disruptions and regulatory changes.
In recent years, the subsidiary has integrated advanced analytics, scenario modelling and sector-specific expertise to help clients understand complex exposures and make informed decisions to reduce operational and financial risks.
The appointment of Matthias is expected to support Zurich’s strategic objectives in several ways. With his extensive consultancy and leadership experience, he will oversee the expansion of advisory capabilities and enhance operational efficiency across the global team.
Matthias brings nearly 20 years of consultancy experience, including as a partner at McKinsey, where he advised financial institutions and major European insurers on strategy, operational efficiency and organisational transformation.
Most recently, he was senior vice president and client executive at State Street Bank International, overseeing strategic customer relationships across EMEA and managing complex portfolios. At Zurich, he will lead the global team from Zurich itself and report to Sierra Signorelli, CEO US and Commercial Insurance.
Signorelli said that Zurich Resilience Solutions plays a pivotal role in the company's proposition, helping corporate clients build resilience against both known and emerging threats. According to Signorelli, Matthias' experience in strategic leadership and large-scale business transformation will support Zurich's ambition to expand its advisory capabilities and strengthen its position as a risk management partner for multinational corporations.
