Sun Life has appointed Anshuman Das (pictured left) as chief bancassurance officer for Asia, while NorthStandard has named Michael Hustler (pictured right) as head of Asia Pacific, as both companies move to expand operations across the region.
Das will assume his role on Nov. 3 in Singapore, where he will lead Sun Life’s regional bancassurance strategy. His appointment is part of the company’s broader push to refine its distribution networks and deepen relationships with banking partners across Asia.
He brings 15 years of experience spanning insurance and consumer banking. Before joining Sun Life, he was executive director in the regional bancassurance team at DBS, overseeing partnerships across life and general insurance, as well as financial planning and analytics. He has also held leadership positions at HSBC Life, Citibank, and Standard Chartered Bank.
"I’m delighted to welcome Anshuman to the team,” said David Broom, chief client & distribution officer in Asia. “He has a proven track record of developing and implementing strategic bancassurance strategies tailored for a diverse set of Asian businesses. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to grow our channels and better serve the needs of our clients in Asia.”
Separately, NorthStandard confirmed Hustler’s promotion to head of Asia Pacific, effective Oct. 27. He succeeds David Roberts, who will leave the company in February.
After 16 years with NorthStandard, including his most recent position as head of underwriting for Asia Pacific, Hustler will now oversee the company’s regional operations and ensure alignment with its global strategy. He will report to chief strategy officer Ed Davies.
“Mike’s risk management expertise and understanding of member needs have been making a vital contribution to growing our Asia Pacific presence and relationships, while our underwriting strategy across the region has benefited significantly from his leadership,” Davies said.
NorthStandard operates in nine Asia Pacific locations, including Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, Hong Kong, and Melbourne. Managing director Jeremy Grose said Hustler’s leadership will support the insurer’s efforts to strengthen its marine insurance services.
