BNP Paribas Cardif and Zurich Insurance Group have both announced significant leadership changes impacting their operations in Asia.

The appointments, which include new chief executive and senior management roles, are expected to influence strategic direction, operational priorities, and customer engagement across Asian markets.

BNP Paribas Cardif restructures executive team in Asia

BNP Paribas Cardif has named Michael Nguyen (pictured) as chief executive officer for Asia, marking a key leadership transition for the company’s regional operations. Nguyen brings experience in corporate strategy, operations, and technology, having started his career with Airbus Group in 2002. He has held management roles at Bouygues, AXA, and SCOR Group, where he led operations strategy and managed strategic projects.

Nguyen joined BNP Paribas Cardif in 2020 as chief information officer and was later promoted to deputy CEO and COO, overseeing efficiency, technology, and operations. His academic background includes degrees from Pierre and Marie Curie Paris University, HEC, Mines ParisTech, and an MBA from INSEAD.

Nguyen’s appointment is part of a broader set of executive changes, with Nicolas Villet taking on the role of chief executive officer for the EMEA region, which covers Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Villet’s career includes roles at Deloitte and the Casino Group before joining BNP Paribas Cardif in 2013. He has served as head of strategy, secretary of the executive committee, and held leadership positions in Hong Kong as CFO and deputy CEO for Asia. In recent years, Villet has overseen BNP Paribas Epargne & Retraite Entreprises and served as deputy CEO of BNP Paribas Cardif France. He is a graduate of Ecole des Mines and HEC Paris.

Zurich Insurance Group appoints new chief claims officer for Asia-Pacific

Zurich Insurance Group has appointed Megan Shao as chief claims officer for Asia-Pacific, effective Feb. 1, 2026. Shao returns to Zurich after her tenure as head of claims, Asia, at AXA XL. She previously held the role of head of financial lines & casualty claims, Asia-Pacific, at Zurich.

In her new capacity, Shao will oversee Zurich’s claims operations across the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on claims strategy and customer service standards.

“We are delighted to welcome Megan back to Zurich. Her experience, leadership, and technical expertise will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our claims service to our customers across the region,” said Sean Walker, head of commercial insurance & chief technical officer, Asia-Pacific, Zurich Insurance Group.

Shao is expected to collaborate with claims teams throughout Asia-Pacific to refine Zurich’s approach to claims management and customer engagement. She will be based in Singapore and report directly to Sean Walker. Shao holds degrees from Boston University School of Law and Chinese Culture University in Taipei.
