Aon plc has expanded its leadership team in Asia with the appointment of Shinji Kuriyama (pictured) as enterprise client leader for Japan, effective immediately.

Kuriyama will be responsible for managing Aon’s relationships with Japanese clients, focusing on the delivery of integrated risk capital and human capital solutions.

Shinji Kuriyama’s career

Kuriyama brings more than 30 years of experience in financial services, having held senior positions at BNP Paribas, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup in both Japan and the US.

At BNP Paribas Japan, he served as managing director and head of Corporate Coverage, advising a portfolio of Japanese and multinational clients.

His previous roles include launching and expanding Wells Fargo’s corporate banking operations in Japan and developing the Japan Desk in the US.

Kuriyama’s background also includes credit expertise at Citi and regulatory engagement with the Financial Services Agency and the Bank of Japan.

Kuriyama to oversee enterprise client strategy in Japan

Kuriyama will be based in Tokyo and will report to Craig Torgius, Aon’s chief client officer and head of enterprise clients for Asia-Pacific. He will also work closely with Tatsuya “Jake” Yamamoto, CEO of Aon Japan.

Torgius said Kuriyama’s appointment represents an important development in how Aon serves its enterprise clients in Japan.

“His extensive experience in corporate and investment banking, combined with his ability to lead high-performing teams and navigate complex regulatory environments, makes him uniquely positioned to drive strategic outcomes in Japan,” he said. “Shinji brings a combination of financial acumen, relationship depth, and cross-border leadership that will help us unlock new opportunities and deliver integrated solutions to our clients’ evolving needs.”

Kuriyama said he looks forward to supporting clients as they address complex challenges and make informed decisions.

“Working in close collaboration with global and local teams across Aon, I am committed to helping Japanese enterprises to strengthen resilience, capitalise growth opportunities, and managing uncertainty with data-driven insights and integrated solutions,” he said.

In a related move, Aon has named Bonjay Koo as enterprise client leader in South Korea, with the appointment effective Sept. 1.

Koo is based in Seoul and oversees the delivery of risk capital and human capital services to enterprise and multinational clients in the country. He reports to Torgius and work closely with Kevin Kim, CEO of Aon Korea.
